The Benefits of Bite Planes
Wednesday, November 8, 2017
How do you know if a bite plane or mouth guard is right for you?
Do you experience pain in your jaw? Either side or both?
Does your jaw make a clicking or popping sound that can cause pain when you are talking, yawning or taking a large bite?
Do you have difficulty opening your mouth?
Do you experience toothaches upon waking?
Do you experience migraines or intense headaches?
If you said yes to one or more of these questions, then you may be experiencing Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome, AKA TMJ.
While it is unclear of the direct cause of TMJ and it is a syndrome that is still being studied, common factors that cause this syndrome seem to be; stress, tension, anxiety, bruxism (or the grinding and clenching of teeth), trauma to the jaw or face. Whatever the reason, we can help you out with the issues experienced with TMJ by using a bite plane.
What can we do to help?
We will work with you to create a custom-made nightguard. This guard to be worn at night will be form fitted to your specifications so that the comfort is the best you can have. The nightguard will reduce or even eliminate your jaw pain and headaches that are often the cause of nighttime teeth grinding. Not only will this help the pain, but it is also best for the overall health of your teeth. Grinding can cause your teeth to wear down over time.
If you feel that you are someone who grinds their teeth at night and wish to keep your teeth and jaw in its best condition as well as eliminate that daily pain you are experiencing, contact us at Kemper Meadow Family Dentistry so we can help.
But wait, there’s more!
Don’t forget that the best place to get a mouthguard for all sports for yourself or your children is in family dentistry. Don’t opt for the cheap version that may not be doing what they should be doing when it comes to the protection of your mouth. We are experts. We know what needs to be happening to protect your teeth and can custom fit your guard so that you have the best comfort possible.
Whether you need some pain relief from TMJ or are interested in a custom guard for sports, contact us at Kemper Meadow Family Dentistry today so we can help!
