Our Services
Following is a list of the services we provide at Kemper Meadow Family Dentistry.
Pediatric Dentistry
We ensure the dental health of your children from infancy throughout their teenage years. Our child-friendly environment helps ensure a comfortable experience with minimal anxiety. We recommend that your child first see a dentist as soon as the baby teeth begin to emerge, which often begins as early as six months.
Examinations and Cleanings
Regularly scheduled exams and teeth cleanings provide the cornerstone of good dental health. Exams are important because they may identify possible issues before they reach the serious stage, which allows preventive measures to be taken. Some dental issues, such as early-stage gum disease, can even be reversed if they are caught in time.
Metal-Free Fillings
We use metal-free fillings designed to offer optimal appearance and functionality. Composite teeth fillings match the color of your teeth and are more durable than their metal counterparts. Because they bond together with your teeth tissues, they can actually cause your teeth to become stronger.
Extractions
Although our goal is to promote keeping teeth healthy and strong so that tooth extractions aren’t necessary, we realize that sometimes. having a tooth removed is the patient’s best option. We strive to make this as painless as possible, and if a patient requires a treatment that we cannot perform in our office, we happily refer them to a qualified dental surgeon in the area.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Because we know the importance of showing the world your best smile, we provide a full range of cosmetic dentistry services. Whether you need something minor such as a teeth whitening session for a special occasion or a full smile makeover, we’ve got you covered. Besides whitening, our cosmetic dentistry services include reshaping, contouring, crowns, veneers, and a number of other restorative dentistry techniques. Just ask what we can do to make your smile better.
Mouthguards and Bite Planes
Whether you commute to work on a bicycle or your child plays sports, we provide custom mouthguards to keep your teeth, gums, and face safe from accidental damage caused by physical trauma. We custom-fit them for each individual to ensure maximum comfort and functionality. We also provide night guards for those who are prone to gnashing and grinding their teeth as they sleep.
Crowns
Dental Crowns are used on teeth that are severely stained or damaged to the extent that they can no longer function on their own. They are made from composite materials and can be made to match the color of the rest of your teeth so that your smile looks as natural as possible. Unlike veneer, which only covers the front surface of the tooth, crowns completely encase the entire tooth, providing optimal protection and stability.
Porcelain Veneers
As mentioned, porcelain veneers perform much the same service as crowns except they only cover the front surface of the tooth. These are excellent for teeth that are stained to the extent that whitening treatments don’t help much or lightly chipped. Porcelain is a durable material that provides an extremely natural appearance.
Implants
Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth or those that are so badly damaged that they can’t be restored using traditional dental methods. Unlike dentures, implants don’t have to removed and cleaned at night. As their name implies, dental implants involve implanting artificial tooth roots into the bone tissue of the jaw and affixing prosthetic teeth to them, which allows them to look, function, and feel as much like real teeth as possible. Those with implants don’t have to worry about them slipping or sliding around in the mouth, as can happen with some types of dentures, especially those that have not been fitted properly.
Not everyone is a good candidate for implants, but recent advances in dental technology have made them more attainable. For instance, those without adequate bone tissue in their jaw areas may now be able to get implants due to bone grafting procedures. Only your dentist will be able to tell you if this is the right option for you, however. It’s also important that those who get dental implants are free of gum disease.
Dental Bridges
Dental bridges are used to fill gaps between one or more teeth. Besides detracting from your appearance, gaps in the teeth cause issues with chewing food, and after a period of time, they’ll cause the other teeth in your mouth to shift. This wreaks havoc with facial structure, and if the alignment of your teeth becomes crooked due to shifting, it may result in bacteria buildup because crooked spaces are much harder to keep free of plaque by normal brushing and flossing.
Sleep Apnea Devices
Sleep apnea is a condition with the potential to have a profoundly negative impact on your life. Not only does it interfere with the quality of your sleep, leaving you often feeling tired and run down before your day has even gotten started, it also may keep your partner up at night because it usually involves snoring. We provide a device called Silent Nite® that’s designed to keep your respiratory air passages free and clear while you’re asleep. This device is adjustable in order to provide you with optimal comfort.
Why Is Cosmetic Dentistry Important?
Cosmetic dentistry is important for many reasons. Cosmetic dentistry is what enables your dentist to fix your teeth after an accident leaves them broken. It’s also cosmetic dentistry that fills in a gap if you should lose a permanent tooth. Cosmetic dentistry can help you gain confidence in your smile, which can help with your professional and personal relationships. In the event that you’ve lost a permanent tooth, this type of dentistry can even help keep your teeth in alignment. With a gap between your teeth, your remaining teeth could shift with time.
When Should You Consider Cosmetic Dentistry?
You should consider cosmetic dentistry if:
- You feel self-conscious about damage to your teeth.
- You’re afraid to smile or show your teeth to people who don’t know you.
- You don’t like talking to strangers for fear they may see your teeth.
Some procedures require your gums and jaw to be healthy in order to proceed, so your cosmetic dentist can tell you whether you’re a good candidate for the work you’d like to be done. Make an appointment to find out today.
Cosmetic Dentistry FAQ
We know you have questions about some of our most popular cosmetic dentistry procedures. See below, the questions people ask most.
Does insurance cover cosmetic dentistry?
Insurance does cover some types of cosmetic dentistry, depending on what the procedure is and why you need it. Don’t shy away from getting the work done that you need just because you’re afraid your insurance doesn’t cover it. Check with your insurance company to find out whether the work you’d like to perform is covered by your plan.
You can also address your questions to your dentist, who may be able to provide guidance in your discussion with the insurance company.
Who is a good candidate for tooth whitening?
The best way to know if you’re a good candidate for tooth whitening is to speak with your dentist. The best candidates are patients who have good dental health, who brush their teeth two times daily, who floss daily, who receive regular dental checkups and who are in good physical health. It is these patients who usually see their tooth whitening procedure last the longest.
How long does tooth whitening last?
Tooth whitening lasts between one and two years, depending on how well you take care of your teeth, how often you get your teeth cleaned and what your dietary habits are. Some foods stain teeth faster than others.
Does tooth whitening work on implants?
No, tooth whitening does not work on implants. This means if you get your teeth whitened and you also have an implant, your implant may no longer match your natural teeth.
Are there any side effects of tooth whitening?
Following a tooth whitening procedure, your teeth may be more sensitive to hot and cold. Your gums may be more sensitive as well.
Do children ever get cosmetic dentistry?
Yes, children can get cosmetic dentistry. In fact, they commonly seek this type of service after sports accidents that leave their teeth broken or missing.
